Speed Up Your Mindset Growth Using Neuroscience

Oct 25, 2024

I’ve been on a personal growth journey for a long time. I have a dozen stacks of books that are each a couple of feet high. I love to learn and love to improve. But honestly, it’s a fine line. The desire to grow and make improvements in your life is healthy. But when it’s driven by a sense of being “not good enough”, it can be detrimental.

There’s a quote I love. “You are perfect just the way you are AND there’s room to improve.” I try to hold my growth lightly. If I fail, it’s just a sign that I’m learning. It’s like learning to ride a bike for the first time, you’ll probably fall a few dozen times but you’re on the right track.

At some point, I realized that sometimes personal growth wasn’t really about growth, it was actually about healing. If you’ve been on this Earth for any amount of time, you have probably experienced something that stuck with you in a negative way and shaped how you view the world and even how you act. In personal growth, we may call this “limiting beliefs”. Here’s why…it’s known in psychology that our beliefs shape our thoughts, our thoughts lead to the actions we take and the actions we take lead to the results that we achieve in our life.

Beliefs -> Thoughts -> Actions = Results

When you are trying to change a result in your life, our tendency is to first focus on actions. The easiest example is losing weight. The result you are currently dissatisfied with is your current weight. So, you change your actions by eating less or exercising more. But, it doesn’t last because you haven’t changed the thoughts and beliefs that are driving your actions. Maybe the belief you have is that eating healthy is gross and not fun or that your genetics determine your weight so it’s hopeless.

Here’s the thing that we don’t talk about enough…where do those beliefs come from? Past experiences (good or bad), modeling from parents or other adults in our life, traumas, etc. Those experiences become programmed in our subconscious. Our subconscious controls about 90-95% of our beliefs, thoughts, and actions. So really, it looks more like this…

SUBCONSCIOUS -> Beliefs -> Thoughts -> Actions = Results

Changing our subconscious can seem hard, partially because we aren’t generally aware of what’s going on in our subconscious. I made this training to share a bit about what’s happening below the surface and how we can speed up our growth. Click here to check it out.

In any case, remember…You are perfect JUST THE WAY YOU ARE NOW!
You deserve the joy and peace you desire! I’m cheering you on!

All my love,
Stacey
